Wont You Be My Valentine

I grew up in a house build on Love…My dad romances my mother in ways you only see on TV, but on Valentines Day... my dad goes the extra mile (keep in mind my mother's Birthday is 2 days after Valentine's day). Somehow this seems to be far from the norm for myself and some of my female friends and the wackiness we have dated. Growing up I always had a disdain for Valentines Day…which is odd, because I am the biggest believer in Romance and Love you will every find in our day and age. I think my disdain for the day was because I never truly had a Valentine before. I had a boyfriend or was dating someone on or around  Valentine's day but that wow factor (except for Last Year...but back to why I am iffy on this here Valentines Day...Day).

I still remember this guy, I was dating, I mean we would meet in the library and do homework; well I did homework he just goofed off…anyways back to my story, I was holding my friends balloons she got for her mother and dude saw me with the balloons and he went on an all out rage and cursed me (I have never been so embarrassed ...I later got my brother to handle that, a little yoking and choking never hurt anyone). But again this brought on more disgust for this holiday, this young man didn’t get me a gift but once he says me with one decided at that very moment to Bash ME… but really he should be checking himself as to why he didn’t get me a gift. Which I never understood why guys are so Against Valentines Day...why, what did the heart, candies and cute teddy bears do to you that have you all Scroogish on this day?.

Somehow this day of affection has gotten twisted,  you got the guys who say ish like Valentines Day is Everyday” but umm you ain't showing that Play-Boy... so what are you saying? Did you buy me chocolate and huge ass bear last week? No, you didn't!!  How about the ones that go It’s a Commercial Holiday To Get You To Buy”…ok so why you not buying?? We celebrate your birthday no?? Rock out for NBA Playoffs and other sports NO?? Then  Gimme Me My Dam Gift!
I had this one guy that I was with for many YEARS, that would get me Red Roses, I detest anything Red and getting me Red Roses just prove you don't know me.  I understand its the thought that counts, back to what I said a few sentences back, not every day is Valentine's day...make it special. Now, don't think I don't give gifts, I am not all talk...I pay attention and will give a gift that holds sentimental value to you.

It gets tricky because We want to Display Love instead of actually Being In Love, focus on the person you are with/dating learn what they heart is speaking or wanting, do not worry about what the world is saying...Learn your partner. I have seen some gestures that would make you go well dam that is something straight outta of a movie script. My generation has to do better; the romance is dying or dead amongst us. It’s lost, dudes don’t want to Romance and women don’t want to show Vulnerability. Nobody wants to get “Played” but they are indeed playing a game of trying not to get “Played”.

Honestly, to me, Valentines Day is a day that you should just show that extra appreciation for your significant other. I feel that woman should get the man in their life a gift as well and I have voiced this to my female friends and SEX is not a gift…you have to be able to create ROMANCE together…its not a one-way street. Communication is awesome but once the Love & Romance dies, you can’t talk your way back...Talk is Cheap, you have to Show Them!

  1. Date your spouse. I do believe that the majority of the people forget that this is the most important aspect of being with an individual.

What is the person favorite color? Favorite food? Favorite song?

study the real people in your life, like you study the fake people who are not.....

  2. I agree with dating your spouse...and it doesn't have to be anything fancy dancy either, watch a movie together, play some games. That quality time together tuning out the craziness of the world.

The Silent Whisper: How "Being Remembered" Shows the Difference Between Compromise and Settling

We talk a lot about “not settling” in modern dating how we shouldn’t accept the bare minimum, how we deserve effort, consistency, and someone choosing us every day. But somewhere along the way, “not settling” started getting confused with “never compromising,” and those two things are not the same. Compromise is collaboration. Settling is self-betrayal. And nothing captures that difference more clearly than the quiet, intimate act of being remembered. The Effort I Mistook for Compatibility For a long time, I was the one who remembered. I'm the woman who'll clock your favorite snack in passing and pick it up "just because." The one who remembers your big meeting, your bad knee, the story about your childhood bedroom. I remember the song you skip every time, the way you side-eye certain foods, the exact way you take your coffee. That's how I love people—through details. And for a long time, I mistook my own effort for "compatibility." I’ve been in situat...

When Your Person is Also Your Friend

Dating today feels like it’s running on fast-forward. Everything is about instant attraction, hookups, and surface-level vibes. Rarely do people pause long enough to ask: But are we friends? See, when someone is your friend to the core, it changes everything. Friends don’t go out of their way to hurt each other. Friends know how to tell the truth...even when it’s uncomfortable  because the bond matters more than ego. That’s what’s missing in a lot of relationships right now: the foundation. If I’m your friend, I should be able to say what’s on my heart without fear that you’ll twist it, dismiss it, or run away. And let’s be real, the group chat knows more than the man in the bed. I laughed when someone told me “girls share everything in the group chat” because listen, if any of my group chats ever got leaked? Wheeeew, pray for us all. 🤭 But here’s the kicker: most of us don’t actually share it all with the man we’re sleeping with. Some women do, sure, but most don’t. We’ll c...

Put Me In

I’m not good at this game called Love. Someone once told me I’m not supposed to be good at it— I’m just supposed to take care of it when I find it or if it finds me. But every time I tried to take care of it, It didn’t take care of me. I’m not good at this game called Love. I’ve trained for years. Had a few different teammates. Revised my playbook. Yet, somehow, I’m still no good at this game. And the closest I came to winning, I realized I was running plays with a teammate Who was passing the ball to every other team in the league. 😉 I left my last team. I walked away, filed the paperwork, Hung up my old jersey for good. Sometimes leaving is the hardest move you’ll ever make. And even though my heart is healing, It still feels like I’m stuck on the sideline. But the game goes on. I built this wall around me, Told myself it was for protection, But after my divorce, I was always looking for the quickest exit— Just waiting for the moment to leave. My therapist recently chuckled and said...
